Compensation

$140000 - $155000 / year

Position Summary

The Project Controls Manager oversees several key project functions, which require accurate development and reporting of baseline schedule, schedule progress updates, related cost and cost projections, production of timely and accurate data for use by key project and management staff. The role ensures the provision of all schedule and cost control on the project including budget set up, updates and monitoring, variation estimating, cost reporting, risk contingency and management as well as all forecasting activities.  

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Establish a logical and structured approach towards the creation of major projects baseline schedules necessary to satisfy the contract requirements, including the requirements to provide appropriate forecasts  
  • Ensure that appropriate management information and reporting are developed and maintained for each project  
  • Ensure that all work is properly scheduled, and that progress is accurately and timely reported in accordance with the contract requirements  
  • Assist Contract Managers by producing schedule fragments in support of any change order or claim submissions  
  • Ensure Projects maintain regular billing activity  
  • Perform periodic risk assessments of all Projects and provide recommendations for any available mitigation measures  
  • Supervise the submission of monthly schedule updates and related narratives to ensure all issues are properly captured and incorporated, where necessary, into the schedule updates.  
  • Participate in planning the objectives, methods and resources of short- and long-range financial operations of the company  
  • Recommend and where necessary produce policies and procedures relating to the financial and business practices of the company  
  • Monitor the financial operations of the company or assigned area to ensure compliance with budgets  
  • Work with Project Controller to set up new contracts in JDE  
  • Work with project estimators to translate and interpret initial budget  
  • Work with project team to create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and enter in JDE  
  • Load budget into JDE, including costs, man-hours, equipment hours and budgeted production quantities  
  • Work with project management team to translate, interpret and clarify baseline cost budget  
  • Work with Corporate Tax Department to ensure all tax codes are properly assigned to project and applicable WBS codes within project  
  • Develop / Assign project level category codes  

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience working in project controls with specific bias to scheduling major multi discipline complex projects. In addition, must have some claims related forensic scheduling experience. Transit experience preferred  
  • Proficient working knowledge of latest Primavera Scheduling (P6) programs and related project management tools  
  • Thorough knowledge of project management practices  
  • Proficient working knowledge of accounting systems, experience with JDE preferred, v. 8.10 or later, preferred  
  • Ability to meet deadlines  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills  
  • Highly self-motivated and directed  
  • Strong attention to detail  
  • Transparent communicator  
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities  
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment  
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills  

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Willing to travel, 50% of the time  
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines  
  • Works in an office environment  
  • Frequently sits for long periods of time  
  • Frequently speaks, reads, writes, and uses a computer keyboard  
  • May require occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending
