Position Summary
The General Superintendent provides onsite supervision of construction projects including organizing, planning and scheduling of the work, materials and equipment, supervising sub-contractors and staff, ensuring that specifications are being followed, and that work is proceeding on schedule and within budget.


Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000/yr 


Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plans and reviews the work with the General Superintendent and/or Project Manager; provides input on jobsite logistics, organization, plant layout, equipment and manpower utilization.
  • Develops project schedules; supervises work performance to ensure it is in accordance with the approved schedule.
  • Assists in scheduling and expediting the delivery of materials and equipment for timely on-site delivery.
  • Reviews drawings and designs to ensure that specifications are being met.
  • Performs in-depth review of all contract documents to become familiar with all details, notes, and requirements.
  • Coordinates, directs, and monitors the activities of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Obtains and/or confirms that subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction.
  • Supervises total construction effort in the field to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule.
  • Responsible for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of project.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and monitors subcontractors.
  • Monitors and adheres to established budgetary guidelines for job, and ensures that cost control measures are being followed. 
  • Coordinates the work onsite with the activities of inspection agencies as necessary.
  • Provides technical assistance to craft superintendents and foremen regarding construction methods and equipment.
  • Ensures all field personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements, and work rules; documents all violations and recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
  • Assists in maintaining good safety and security practices for the entire project.
  • Keeps project team informed as to changes made in the field, so that such changes may be covered by change orders.
  • Provides guidance in resolving construction problems encountered.
  • Prepares and manages project closeout requirements.
  • Monitors job safety and safety training; enforces safety programs and OSHA Standards.  

General/Other Responsibilities and Duties

  • Acts as liaison among owners, inspectors, staff and subcontractors.
  • Writes reports and/or updates (internal and external) for management, client, and project team, to ensure a clear understanding of project status.
  • Administers financial tracking systems to monitor project costs and estimates.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of construction management experience including a thorough knowledge of construction industry practices, methods, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities. 
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of basic project controls (cost, schedule, change management, etc.), material management, contract management, subcontract management, safety, and quality.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend drawings and specifications.
  • Strong management skills and the ability to motivate employees.
  • Track record of successfully executing projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong client relations, influencing skills and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Frequently works outdoors at construction sites and occasionally works indoors.
  • Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction.
  • Sits, reads, writes and uses a keyboard.
  • May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.
  • May be exposed to loud noise.
