Position Summary
Reporting to the Signal Supervisor, The Signal Assistant will be supporting project work and/or the maintenance operations. The work is physically demanding and performed outdoors in a field environment, near live track during nights and days, in all weather conditions.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
· Perform general labor tasks as necessary including operating equipment.
· Maintain tools and equipment in ready-for-service condition.
· Perform special duties as assigned by the Signal Supervisor, Leading Signal Maintainer or Signal Maintainer.
· Work cooperatively with other Signal Maintainers on project work and supporting the maintenance operations.
· Comply with railway and PNR safe work practices and signal work procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications
· 1-2 years of field electrical experience
· Must hold a valid driver's G license
· Previous experience in project work and/or in a construction/farm environment required
· Mechanically inclined to work with and fix small gas engines
· Experience with heavy equipment (backhoe/skid steers) or cranes/boom trucks an asset
· Diploma is an asset in Electrical Technology/Technician but not required
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
· Work is outdoors in all weather conditions.
· Exposure to live track/trains and high voltage.
· Work is safety sensitive and protective equipment is required.
· Travel to work sites is required.
