Position Summary

 

Supports the Controller and CFO in all areas of finance including finance operations, corporate reporting, financial planning and analysis, and budget preparation/forecasting. Ensures company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles and that internal policies and controls are followed.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversees the daily/weekly/monthly financial operations for all construction activities in Quebec
  • Preparation of financial analyses, outlooks and forecasts
  • Ensures compliance with local and federal budgetary reporting requirements
  • Works with project managers and corporate staff to develop budgets and business plans 
  • Supports the tax department with filing of all corporate tax returns including income taxes and payroll taxes
  • Ensures accuracy in transactional tax recording
  • Supervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Manages accounting procedures and ensures compliance with internal controls including Company policies, GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Audits work flow to assure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized
  • Substantiates and reviews for accuracy expenditures and expense reports
  • Supervises and/or prepares monthly journal entries
  • Prepares financial statements
  • Supervises and/or prepares general ledger reconciliations
  • Manages and reviews monthly closing process
  • Manages and assists with financial audits
     

General/Other Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Prepares internal reports and works on special projects as requested
  • Assists with hiring, training, and managing staff

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting; commensurate experience considered
  • A minimum of 6 years finance or accounting experience, construction industry experience preferred
  • Bi-lingual, French and English
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems, ERP experience
  • Knowledge of federal and local financial regulations
  • Thorough understanding of financial operations, including procurement, AP, payroll, billing, collections, revenue recognition and percentage of completion; ideally in the construction industry
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting
  • Ability to perform with a high level of discretion, professionalism, and integrity
  • Ability to effectively train and manage staff
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within tight timeframes
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with advanced Excel skills

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Works in an office environment
  • Works in the Delson office as well as project offices in the greater Montreal area
  • Frequently sits for long periods of time
  • Frequently speaks, reads, writes and uses a computer keyboard
  • May require occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending
