Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Client Services, the Training Manager will oversee all training delivery activities in the classroom and field environments. Develops and implements plans to meet the required training goals set out by management of all Ontario Business Units to meet departmental goals and objectives. Ensure that training equipment, material, and resources are managed in an efficient manner. Set a high standard for field employee personal development to ensure quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

 

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Create and update the annual PNR Ontario Training Plan including the budget and deliver training to plan and budget as necessary.
  • Aligns current training and development programs to effectively impact key business/ or performance indicators.
  • This position will directly supervise all permanent and part time technical trainers and clerical staff as required to develop, deliver and maintain technical and safety training programs.
  • Manage all third party training consultants required to enhance and maintain training for all Ontario business units.
  • Provide support to facilitators by managing facilitator performance management and building one’s skills.
  • Manages training development projects including timelines, training budget, and development of content.
  • Simultaneously handle multiple training projects in various stages of development.
  • Liaise with RailWorks corporate to oversee changes to the LMS, and maintain transparency amongst business units.
  • Coaching and mentoring field personnel and provide train the trainer sessions to establish strong field coaches.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of technical or soft skills training, as necessary to develop and support front line and senior management critical skills.
  • Facilitate classroom workshops, training sessions, and virtual training sessions as required.
  • Oversee the modification of existing training materials and create new training material as required.
  • Develop or oversee the production of classroom handouts, instructional materials, aids and manuals.
  • Ensure all training center equipment and training materials are up‐to‐date and in good order.
  • Evaluate training delivery and effectiveness using the Kirkpatrick four level model, ensuring employees are engaged and learning through training.

 

General/Other Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist the Operations team to meet set goals and timelines
  • Represents the company at training‐related meetings as assigned
  • Establish a learning culture to maintain on‐going employee development.
  • Perform other duties as required

 

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience within training and development and managing teams effectively
  • Post‐secondary degree/diploma program in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Advanced knowledge of training and development, Instructional Design, and Project Management
  • Experience using Learning Management System (LMS) to design and develop content for e‐learning courses as well as using engaging videos and quizzes for assessment and evaluation of audience
  • Railway construction or maintenance experience including experience teaching, training and mentoring others an asset
  • Demonstrated strength in public speaking and ability to facilitate training sessions in a classroom setting.
  • Strong understanding of track and signal systems an asset
  • Experience in and success with implementation of new systems, processes, and procedures
  • Ability to build, support and motivate a high performance work force
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration verbal and written communication skills
  • Certificate Training and Development Professional (CTDP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with Adobe creative suite would be an asset.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Generally works in an office and classroom environment but frequently travels to construction or maintenance sites
  • May require work on weekends and nights to meet training demands of the workforce
  • Generally sits for long periods of time
  • Frequently speaks to audiences or individuals and demonstrates procedures
  • May require standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending
  • May be required to conduct training at customer or other facilities.
