Pay Range: $90000 - $110000 / year 

 

Position Summary 
Uses engineering and Metallurgy methods to design and develop metal products. Assist in new product development from material selection, manufacturing guidelines, testing criteria and hands on testing. Analyze and improve existing product where needed.  Lead quality team in terms of testing, quality technician supervision and Audits.  Update existing quality standards where necessary.

 
Studies behavior of metals under certain conditions to accurately analyze user needs to build, modify, and test products. Performing general metal processing that includes melting, alloying, heat treating, casting, rolling, and stamping of high purity metals. Inspects for necessary maintenance improvements. Performs work with a high degree of latitude. Handles the most complex issues. Possesses expert knowledge of subject matter. Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to quality team.

 


Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
•    Will write quality specifications for manufacturing new products.
•    Will lead Quality department and existing and new Product specification and testing
•    Will insure product is manufactured in accordance with industry accepted best practices and guidelines. 
•    Complies and follows all OSHA and NARSTCO safety standards and regulations
•    To exercise the utmost degree of integrity, honesty, good faith and fidelity to the Company, in dealing with the Company and with its customers, employees, suppliers and other public entities;
•    Provide other reasonable services as the Company may request from time to time.
•    Perform metallurgical analysis
•    Maintains process specifications relating to heat treat, aging, surface preparation, plating and coating operations.
•    Communicates the results of material investigations
•    Design and conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, operation, and performance of components.
•    Gather statistics, analyze and interpret in accurate way.
•    Technical resource for Operations and Sales by providing support and direction on metal properties.

Required Skills and Qualifications 
•    8 or more years of related experience in the Metallurgy Field required
•    Experience in industrial, production manufacturing and fabrication required
•    Must have an in depth understanding of metal materials working in fatigue environments
•    Must have a good understanding of aspects of metal corrosion
•    Must be familiar and capable of operating the following:

Tinius Olsen or similar Universal testing machine
Tinius Olsen or similar Hardness tester
MTS or similar Servo-Hydraulic Fatigue testing Machine
Leoc or similar Inverted Metallographic Microscope with PAXcam software
Leco or similar sectioning Saw
Leco or similar Hot mounting press
Leco or similar automatic grinder/polisher
Measuring instruments eg. Calipers, micrometers, indicators, tape measure

 


Preferred Experience
•    Die making experience a plus
•    Managerial expertise with metallurgists and technicians.
•    Railway experience is a plus
•    Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy
 


 
Work Environment
The job operates in all areas of the NARSTCO facility and work will require exposure to loud noises, machines, fumes, heat/cold, sparks, metal dust and industrial moving parts in the plant facility.

 


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and must require assistance if lifting/or moving over 50 pounds. 
Local travel required. Out of state travel on small occasions.
