Compensation

$90,000 - $110,000

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager and Area HSE Manager, the Project Health & Safety Specialist works to support the project HSE management system to minimize safety risks and promote a proactive and positive safety culture.

 

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conducts regular job site safety inspections and observations, documenting findings and verifying corrective actions
  • Lead or support incident reporting and investigations, ensuring timely documentation, root-cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
  • Develop, review and update risk assessments, safe work practices and safety procedures
  • Deliver or participate in new worker orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings and safety briefings
  • Collaborate with superintendents and project teams to create site-specific plans as required
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, government health and safety legislation, and environmental standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety and environmental performance and provide recommendations based on observations and data
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training and maintain effective safety communication materials
  • Manage and audit the purchasing, distribution and inventory of safety supplies and PPE
  • Monitor local regulations, client requirements and company standards to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Support the administration of the company’s Modified Return to Work Program
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Formal education and/or recognized training in Occupational Health & Safety
  • 3–5 years experience in a safety-focused role, ideally within railway or construction environments
  • Strong working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, related regulations, standards, and applicable legislation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with digital safety platforms
  • Well‑developed communication skills — oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and documentation abilities
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving capability and sound judgment in fast‑paced environments
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Flexibility for travel; visits various locations
  • Flexibility in scheduling to meet operational demands
  • Works both indoors and outdoors, exposure to all weather conditions
  • Standing, sitting, walking, speaking
  • Use of Computer/keyboard
  • Working in a safety-sensitive culture
