Position Summary

Reporting to the Global Purchasing Manager, the Materials and Logistics Supervisor leads, directs, and monitors various aspects of the yard / warehouse and liaises with the procurement team and project management teams for appropriate coordination of material distribution and logistics execution. The Materials and Logistics Supervisor will oversee coordination and documentation of material issuances, receipts from inventory/project materials and the cycle counting process. This position ensures that the goals and objectives of logistics; yard and warehouse are accomplished on schedule and within budget, and that quality and safety standards are met. The Materials and Logistics Supervisor directs staff in successfully accomplishing the goals and objectives while promoting and ensuring a positive safety culture.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Manage yard  and warehouse, responsible for PNR owned inventory, consignment inventories and customer owned inventories
  • Manage yard and warehouse employees, maintain coordination and communication between yard/warehouse, ensuring efficiency of time and directing day to day activities
  • Responsible for receiving incoming materials and subsequent delivery to the field
  • Collaborates with procurement & project management teams to verify, load and coordinate deliveries of materials to projects
  • Coordinates with procurement team to manage logistics for inventoried and project materials
  • Receiving materials to inventory, cycle counting, tracking material issuances and sorting returns
  • Manages and distributes tools to field staff as needed and coordinates with procurement to ensure adequate stock levels
  • Generating reports,  bills of lading and using internal databases as required
  • Assists in all yard/warehouse activities to ensure execution in accordance with company requirements, budgets and schedules
  • Validate material returns, review material requests for accuracy, vocalize discrepancies to required departments/teams;
  • Responsible for order verification for shipments both inbound and outbound;
  • Monitors quality, productivity, progress, and safety of employees and/or subcontractors.
  • Assists the procurement team in overseeing financial aspects related to yard/warehouse; budgeting, forecasting.
  • Oversees facility and property maintenance, including but not limited to buildings, yards, warehouse, parking lots etc.;
  • Responsible as a back up operator for the front end loader for both truck loading and snow removal in the winter
  • Monitors and enforces safety programs;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General/Other Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manages performance of yard / warehouse staff;
  • Interfaces with regulatory authorities (customs) as required.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by post-secondary courses in a related field such as business, inventory management or logistics.  Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field
  • A minimum of 2 years recent related experience including inventory management, logistics and/or project management
  • Experience with construction equipment, front end loader, skid steer, excavator 
  • Experience in construction and/or railway are preferred
  • Ability to interpret and understand various shipping documents to verify shipments.
  • Experience utilizing common business and construction applications such as Microsoft Office products and/or JD Edwards software.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and abilities, applies innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.

Working Conditions

  • Travel to job sites is required.
  • Exposure to outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions.
  • Work is in and around live track (trains).
  • Work may be in urban, rural or isolated areas.
