Compensation

$125000 - $200000 / year

Position Summary

Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Manager is accountable for the operational and financial performance of projects/contracts and provides representation and participation in customer and other project meetings. This position will oversee and coordinate all operational activities during the bidding, development, planning, execution and close-out phases of construction projects, manage and support project teams with the aim of achieving operational excellence, quality and financial performance. Also, provide project support from an operational, financial and resource standpoint.  

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides leadership and oversite to all construction efforts to ensure that all projects are executed in accordance with the design, budget, and schedule. 
  • Develops and implements construction plans, schedules, reports, control measures, resource plans for upcoming work etc. 
  • Review work locations 
  • Verifies that all required documentation is approved and up to date 
  • Ensure work can proceed as scheduled 
  • Identify conflicts restricting installation 
  • Identify alternative work locations 
  • Review material availability 
  • Review resources and equipment logistics 
  • Identify and provide three month outlook of resources and equipment of project documents 
  • Review site requirements against work plan 
  • Identify any field level conflicts or additional resources  
  • Review subcontractor requirements 
  • Ensure subcontractor have up to date requirements, design documents, SSWP’s etc 
  • Ensure subcontractors have held kick off meeting 
  • Confirms progress of subcontractors 
  • Oversee compliance of all field personal to health and safety policies 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in related field of study such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar or trade certificate related to the field of work 
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive responsibilities as a supervisor in the related field with 5 years of experience as a construction managers 
  • Read and interpret design drawings and specifications 
  • Experience within Heavy Civil construction design build environments with a contracting organization is an asset. 
  • Experience in supporting construction activities, on-site experience required. 
  • Thorough knowledge of construction local laws, technology, scheduling, and methods. 
  • Ability to effectively train, manage and lead junior staff. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present data. 
  • Proficiency utilizing common business and construction applications such as Microsoft Office products is considered an asset 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Works indoors and onsite/outdoor. 
  • Frequently sits, stands, walks, reads, writes and uses a computer keyboard. 
  • May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather. 
  • Weekend work and extended hours may be required 
  • Work is in and around live track (trains).
