Compensation

$115000 - $155000 / year

Position Summary

The Project Controls Engineer works with project teams to implement company standard project controls processes and procedures, including but not limited to scheduling, billing, earned value, forecasting, critical path analysis, changes, subcontracts, document control, procurement, and progress reporting. This may include training project team members on understanding principles of project controls as well as use of tools. Constant evaluation of levels of proficiencies in areas of project controls will also be required.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

•    Evaluates project cost and schedule status. May require assisting project with process
•    Evaluates project change order status. May require assisting project with process
•    Evaluates project subcontract management process. May require assisting project with process
•    Evaluates project-based document control process. May require assisting project with process
•    Evaluates and monitors project procurement process. May require assisting project with process
•    Evaluates physical progress monitoring and labor claiming scheme as compared to plan. May require assisting project with process
•    Assists in initial project set up, short term planning and overall project scheduling duties
•    Monitors status of critical activities and project milestones and identify problem areas, proposes solutions
•    Reviews contracts, plans, and specifications.
•    Completes quantity takeoffs
•    Assists with bidding projects
•    Runs Project Reports and maintains project trends

Required Skills and Qualifications

•    5 to 10 years in heavy civil construction, preferably in the rail transportation industry
•    Thorough knowledge of construction industry and project management practices which includes understanding contracts, planning & scheduling, cost control, earned value and change management
•    Working knowledge of accounting systems, experience with JD Edwards a plus
•    Working knowledge of Primavera P6 a plus
•    Working knowledge of InEight Estimate software a plus 
•    Knowledge of document controls systems like Procore a plus
•    Ability to meet deadlines
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills
•    Highly self-motivated
•    Strong attention to detail
•    Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
•    Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
•    Strong customer service orientation
•    Strong organization and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Willingness to travel in the U.S. and Canada 
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines 
  • Works in an office and job site environments 
  • Frequently sits for long periods of time 
  • Frequently speaks, reads, writes, and uses a computer keyboard 
  • May require occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending
