Summary/Objective
The SOLIDWORKS Project Engineering Technician at NARSTCO designs turnouts for production per railway standards, NARSTCO standards and customer requested specifications.  Turnout design includes creating an overall turnout layout drawing and all required paperwork for files used by production to produce the NARSTCO product; Prepare paperwork for welding, machined parts and all paged parts that ship to the customer with the NARSTCO turnout product; and design solid modeling CAD files to support the design of new products or changes to current products.  

Pay Range $82000 - $90000 / year

 

Essential Functions
•    Carryout to the full extent required, production activities for the processing of any and all NARSTCO products;
•    Design product layout drawings per railway standards, NARSTCO standards and customer’s requested specifications; product inspection paperwork, welding/assembly paperwork, machine shop paperwork and parts packaging paperwork;
•    Check production paperwork for errors and verify all the correct information is recorded and measurements are valid;
•    Print and laminate drawings to be placed into tubes with annular cutters and appropriate paperwork and installation manuals that are placed in packaging shipped to customers;
•    Create and modify as needed solid modeling 3D files;
•    Order all necessary Turnout production items, materials and safety gear;
•    Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations;
•    Maintain departmental housekeeping standards;
•    Assist in the development of standard operating procedures and instructional material and manuals;
•    To exercise the utmost degree of integrity, honesty, good faith and fidelity to the Company, in dealing with the Company and with its customers, employees, suppliers and other public entities;
•    Provide other reasonable services as the Company may request from time to time.

Work Environment
The job operates primarily within the engineering office environment of the NARSTCO Turnout Production facility and work at time may require exposure to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, loud noises, fumes, sparks, metal dust, contaminants, and industrial moving parts in the plant facility. 

Proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and Safety Regulations must be adhered to at all times.

The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, drive, listen, talk, stoop, bend, crouch , kneel, twist, climb, balance, reach, push/pull and periodically lift up to 50 pounds.   

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.  Hours of work are based on a schedule up to 8 hours per day, 40 hours a week, and overtime depending on company internal and external project demands.

 

Travel
As Required – 5 to10%

 

Required Education and Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with an emphasis in railways preferred
•    Three to five years’ experience in assisting engineering and drafting professionals
•    Two to three years drafting and design layout on a 3D CAD system (Solidworks) (experience in both Microstation and Solidworks is a bonus)
•    Knowledge and experience in Computer Aided Design, Project Management and intermediate arithmetic
•    Knowledge of Railroad Standards and experience in customer supplied specifications is a bonus
•    Intermediate experience in MS Office and project management
•    Ability to  read and interpret engineering drawings
•    Experience in industrial, production manufacturing and fabrication preferred
