Reporting to the Project Manager, the Panel Shop Superintendent is responsible for managing all aspects of the panel wiring shop operations and has overall accountability for meeting shop safety, quality, and production targets. Duties include direct supervision of up to 50 shop tradespersons and foreman in a high pace, multi-shift manufacturing environment. 

Primary / Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensures detailed manufacturing records and deficiencies lists are maintained at all times in accordance with accepted processes and procedures.
  • Reviews project plans and specifications.Organize, schedule and supervise the work ensuring appropriate labour, materials and equipment is in place for efficient production.
  • Responsible for productivity of workers and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and equipment, operational and contractual performance of project; and ensures that cost control measures are being followed.
  • Provides leadership and supervision to assigned staff, identifies goals and objectives, monitors and assesses performance, identifies training and development opportunities, provides ongoing coaching.
  • Provides technical direction regarding installation methods and equipment.
  • Maintains a dedication to safety at all times by serving as a role model, providing education and enforcing safe work practices, Company policies and procedures. Ensures that proper safety equipment is available and used by all personnel.
  • Ensures all field personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements and work rules.
  • Create estimates for shop hours and materials for project changes and new bids.
  • Within designated authority, takes appropriate action to minimize the impact of deviations from budget and schedule.
  • Initially identify changes in scope and work methodology.
  • Escalates issues outside level of authority to Project Manager for resolution.
  • Track shop progress and prepare weekly progress reports.
  • Completes and submits material requisitions forms to Project Manager for all field related project material.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications


  • A Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Electrician, a Construction and Maintenance Electrician or equivalent certifications from other Provinces or Countries.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of electrical panel shop experience in a supervisory role (20+ staff), including a thorough knowledge of manufacturing industry practices, methods and process.
  • A Master Electricians license would be an asset.
  • Prior experience relating to railway signalling systems would be an asset.
